Phinizy Center for Water Sciences
POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Hourly – Paid internship, $10-$12 depending on experience
HOURS: 15 hours per week between 9am- 5pm Monday- Friday with some weekend and evening hours as needed. FALL internship: August-December 2026
REPORTS TO: Administrative & Marketing Coordinator and Park & Volunteers Director

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Phinizy Center marketing internship position will provide an intern with experience and practice in social media marketing and planning by producing quality content for Phinizy Center’s social media platforms and by monitoring its performance. The marketing intern will ensure ongoing excellence and develop new opportunities in Phinizy Center’s marketing and social media initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works with all Phinizy Center departments to schedule and publish content relevant to programs, events, facilities, services, park grounds, etc.
- Creates engaging content and compelling graphics through stories, reels, posts, etc.
- Develops social media campaigns to promote Phinizy Center’s events and assists with their design and execution.
- Assists with managing and monitoring Phinizy Center’s social media channels and activities, which include but are not limited to responding to comments and re-sharing relevant content as needed.
- Makes use of analytic tools to track social media engagement and identify high-performing ideas and campaigns.
- Assists in gathering images and videos to be used in marketing.
- Assists with managing the Phinizy Center’s social media content calendar.
- Other duties as assigned.
DESIRABLE JOB PREREQUISITES
Education/Qualifications:
- Marketing degree-seeking student
- In-depth working knowledge of Facebook, Twitter / X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and TikTok, as well as design software (Adobe Suite/Canva)
- Strong computer and smartphone competency
- Demonstrates interest in the outdoors/the environment/the mission of Phinizy Center for Water Sciences

- Strong work ethic, professionalism, and integrity

- Knowledge of standard office practices and basic computer skills, and ability to apply such knowledge of interrelated processes, tasks, and operations
- Comfortable around bugs and other wildlife we may come across at the park
License(s) or Special Requirements:
- Possess a valid state driver’s license
- Ability to pass a background check
- Must possess reliable camera/phone with camera capable of quality photos
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this position, the intern is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and will be exposed to the outdoor elements such as heat, rain, and insects. Hiking and wading (with waders) will be required at times to gather content for social medias.
