Overview:
Copywriter creates original content and ensures quality and consistency through Phoenix Zoo’s marketing and communications initiatives to drive consumer engagement. This will be achieved through working closely with internal departments, Phoenix Zoo’s adherence to, and support of, the Phoenix Zoo’s mission, ensuring all messaging aligns with the brand’s overall voice and marketing goals.
Essential Duties:
- Provide quality guest service to both internal and external guests by maintaining a WILD (friendly, helpful, positive and professional) working attitude and appearance.
- Maintain, adhere to, and update annually, the Organization’s Communications Style and Standards Guide.
- Assist in the execution of the Zoo’s comprehensive marketing plan, which supports the revenue objectives of the Organization.
- Craft compelling, original narrative content in collaboration not only with the marketing team, but also with member and donor relations, conservation, living collections, and other departments to ensure cohesive, mission-driven storytelling across the Organization.
- Research, write, proof, and edit programmatic and marketing content in a variety of formats including, but not limited to, print and digital signage, newsletters, brochures, articles, Annual Report content, grant requests, sponsorship proposals/activation recaps. Collaborate with Marketing Manager in public and government relations efforts in writing and/or editing press release content, written requests for legislative support and/or position statements for public consumption.
- Collaborate with digital marketing and communications team members to create original content for multiple applications.
- Collaborate with all departments to ensure effective and consistent communication for both internal and external audiences.
- Coordinate translation services for bi-lingual content, if necessary.
- Work collaboratively with other departments to accomplish the Zoo’s mission of providing experiences that inspire and motivate people to care for the natural world.

Requirements / Qualifications:
- B.A. in Marketing, English, Journalism or related field.
- 5-7 years of progressive experience in marketing communications required.
- Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) proficiency required.
- Experience working in Marketing Cloud is considered a plus.
- Excellent storytelling, writing and editing skills required, to include persuasive content creation for marketing materials.
- Demonstrated ability in copywriting, business writing, editing and creation of marketing materials.
- Ability to write, read and speak Spanish is considered a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently required.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license required.
- Ability to pass pre-employment background check, drug and annual TB test.
