Engage by working behind the scenes to learn more about the animals while assisting zookeepers with animal care tasks. This is a great opportunity for volunteers that are interested in a career in zookeeping and learning more about the animals here at the Zoo!
Animal Care Volunteers must:
- Be at least 18 years old;
- Commit to volunteering for 12 hours per month;
- Be able to be able to lift 25lbs, walk on uneven surfaces, tolerate inclement weather and wet/muddy/slippery conditions;
- Take a mandatory anti-harassment training required by the City of Eureka (1 hour webinar);
- Take a zoonotics disease training (1 hour webinar);
- Work safely and independently, stay on task, and follow detailed directions;
- Follow all City of Eureka and Sequoia Park Zoo policies and procedures;
- Complete background check and TB test, and attend volunteer orientation.
The Animal Care Volunteer (ACV) Program has two seasons: Fall (September 12 through December 31) and Spring (February 13 through May 31).
Applications for the ACV Fall Season open August 1 and close September 5, 2026.
